A fortified town in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, the cobbled streets of Beaune are famous for the annual wine auction held in the Hospices de Beaune. Recognisable by its roof of coloured tiles in geometric patterns, this former 15th-century hospital has now become the Hôtel-Dieu museum, displaying masterpieces such as Rogier vander Weyden’s Last Judgement.
Steeped in history, Chalon has a river-based identity, thanks to the Saône, as well as a wine-growing identity thanks to the Côte Chalonnaise, a land rich in great wine appellations. Chalon has been awarded the Ville d’Art et d’Histoire (Town of Art and History) label, and is a perfect blend of heritage, culture and wine tourism.
Situated at an altitude of 837 m, in a green setting between the Larmont mountains and the Arlier plain, Pontarlier is a true mountain town. Pontarlier is the ideal starting point for exploring the Haut-Doubs and neighbouring Switzerland.
